Naruto, Sasuke, and Sakura discover someone who looks exactly like Princess Gale, the character that they just assigned to watch on a movie. The princess was being pursued by some shady-looking fellows. The group saves her, only to find out from Kakashi that they were hired by the guys they just defeated.

With their latest mission complete, it’s time once again for the group to go back to mediocre missions. After all are done, Konohamaru and his friends pay a visit to Naruto. All which result in being chased by Sakura. Everyone is soon over though, as two mysterious ninja block their way, and one of them isn’t too happy with Konohamaru. Sasuke arrives to save the day, but the leader of the group shows up, with stealth skills that surprise even Sasuke. Meanwhile, the Third Hokage announces that it’s time once again for the Chunin selection exams.

Naruto wakes up, eats breakfast, and heads out to meet the others. Sasuke and Sakura are waiting on the bridge for their daily missions. When Naruto and Sasuke see each other, the tension between them mounts. Kakashi shows up late as usual with a handful of missions consisting mainly of errands and household chores. Naruto is very focused on beating Sasuke throughout each task and ends up messing up most of his chores. He not only de-weeds a woman’s garden, but removes her herbs as well. He almost gets pulled over a waterfall until Sasuke saves him. And his dog walks him instead of the other way around. Kakashi senses that today is an off day for teamwork and sends the three home. Sasuke takes one more shot at Naruto by telling him that if he doesn’t want to owe him anything, Naruto will need to become stronger than him..

Naruto has a dangerous encounter with Haku in the forest. Naruto and Sasuke better complete their training, as Zabuza is alive and has returned for rthe next appearance. Will Kakashi, Sasuke, and Sakura be able to defeat the Demon of the Mist? And, can Naruto arrive in time to help out?

A girl is gathering herbs in the forest and then recognizes Naruto lying asleep in the forest as the kid that screamed at her for killing Zabuza in the forest reaches over to grab his neck. She reframes and gently wakes him. They talk for awhile, and she learns that Naruto is indeed a ninja. He trains because he must become stronger to become the best ninja in his village.

Kakashi was captured and Naruto, Sasuke, and Sakura must defend against Zabuza’s attacks. At first Naruto was scared and inteded to flee, but he remembered his promise he swore on pain. He has no other choice but to fight, so they can save Kakashi and keep Tazuna alive. Naruto realizes that he must work together with Sasuke to save Kakashi. Will the combined effort of the two allow them to free Kakashi and defeat Zabuza?

The opening replays the battle between Kakashi and Zabuza leading up to Zabuza’s capture. Naruto and co are impressed that Kakashi has declared the match over. Zabuza taunts him, declaring that Kakashi won’t be able to capture him so easily. He then appears behind Kakashi and kicks him backwards. Kakashi disappears into the river as Zabuza chases him with his big sword.
